When you plan to
study overseas, you have to consider multiple things like the right university,
course, destination, visa application process, education loan process, and
more. One of the first and most important things is to begin the university
application process. Are you planning to study abroad but don’t know how to
begin the university application process? Then this article is for you. Here’s
a brief guide about the study abroad application process.
The first step in your study abroad journey planning is research. Before starting the study abroad application process, you have to find the right mix of university, course, and destination. Besides, you have to perfectly time your entrance exams, visa application, and education loan process. The best thing to do is first finalise your course, university, and destination. You can consider shortlisting top 3 or top 5 universities depending on your preferred study program. Your study program has to align perfectly with your previous academic background and career goals.
Did you know that you can connect with overseas education counsellors to
guide you through your study abroad journey? Since they are professionals, they
will have the right resources and updated information that will assist you
during the study abroad application process.
Depending on your coursework and university requirements, you have to
prepare for the necessary entrance exams. Some entrance exams that you must
know are Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), American College Testing (ACT), Graduate
Management Admission Test (GMAT), Graduate Record Exam (GRE), Medical College
Admission Test (MCAT) and Law School Admission Test (LSAT).
Secondly, please remember that you will also have to be ready with
English language proficiency test scores before proceeding with the study
abroad application process. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TEOFL),
International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Pearson Test of English
(PTE) are some popular and widely-accepted English proficiency tests that you
will have to take before applying to various universities.
Eligibility criteria: Know the entrance
requirements of the universities that you have shortlisted. Be prepared with
academic documents, entrance exam scores, English proficiency test scores,
transcripts, Statement of Purpose (SOP), Letter of Recommendation (LOR) and
other related documents.
SOP: During the study
abroad application process, please remember that the
universities receive several SOPs. So, if you want to stand out from the crowd,
it is advised to write a personalized SOP. Create an interesting SOP detailing
your academic journey, goals, innate abilities, inspiration, achievements,
extracurricular activities, skilling or upskilling courses, internship (if
any), etc.
LOR: Your rapport with your previous
university professor will play a major role in obtaining a genuine LOR to
complete the study abroad application process. The faculty can mention your
academic performance, skills, and more. If they rank you in the LOR, it would
be of great help. For instance, they can mention that you are among the top
5/top 10 students in your class.
If you are planning to apply to multiple universities, you have to keep track of their respective deadlines. Upload all the necessary details,
including academic documents, entrance exam scores, English proficiency test
scores and other related documents to complete the application process.
