It is a dream for any MBA aspirant to get into a top B-school. However, to get admission, they have to give an entrance examination that will test their knowledge and aptitude. Each B-school may recognize a different entrance exam that the students need to clear.



For example, if you want to get admission into IIMs, you need to clear your CAT exams, but if you are looking to get into IIFT, you just need to clear the IIFT entrance test. Similarly, there are several entrance exams in India and this article will highlight the top MBA entrance exams that one can opt for. Also, MBA aspirants must remember that management studies can be expensive. Hence, many students opt for education loans to finance their higher studies.

CAT (Common Entrance Test)

CAT is one of the most common entrance exams that students opt for. It is always conducted by one of the 20 IIMs on a regular basis. For this year, IIM-Kozhikode has been trusted with the responsibility of conducting the exam. CAT examinations are usually conducted in November every year, with more than 2 lakh students appearing for these exams. These exams are considered to be one of the toughest entrance exams in India. Your CAT exam scores will not just be accepted by IIMs, but by other non-IIMs as well, for instance, FMS, IMI, IITs, MDI and other institutes accept CAT results too. Anyone who has completed graduation with more than 50% is eligible to appear for this exam. The exam comprises of 100 questions, for every correct answer you get 3 marks, and 1 mark is deducted for an incorrect answer. The 3 sections of this exam are Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning.

XAT (Xavier’s Admission Test)

XAT is conducted by XLRI and is one of the oldest entrance exams for management courses in India. This test is usually conducted in the month of January every year and is held across various cities. There are more than 70 B-schools that accept XAT scores as their sole admission criteria. Any student with a Bachelor’s Degree from an authorized university is eligible to apply for the exam.

MAT (Management Aptitude Test)

MAT is a well-known entrance examination conducted by the All India Management Association. The applicants have the option of giving this test four times a year, which are in the months of February, May, September, and December. Several B-schools, as well as associate universities, accept MAT scores, which makes it one of the most popular entrance exams.

SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude Test)

Symbiosis International University is one of the most famous private B-schools in India. It has built its reputation for being a university that offers its own specialized MBA course to its students. This aptitude test is conducted on a national level for admissions to all postgraduate management courses that are offered by Symbiosis.

NMAT (NMIMS Management Aptitude Test)

NMAT is the door to numerous leading management programs in India. It is a computer-based test that is conducted by GMAC, and what sets this exam apart from the rest, is that the student is permitted 3 attempts in one admission window to clear the test. This gives students confidence and reduces their stress.

CMAT (Common Management Admission Test)

CMAT is conducted by the National Testing Agency of India and is a computer-based test as well. CMAT was only recently introduced, with the first test conducted in 2012. This exam tests the students on logical reasoning, general awareness, language comprehension, and quantitative technique, with 25 questions on each set.

IIFT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade)

This is a national level exam that is conducted by the three campuses of IIFT, which are Delhi, Kolkata, and Kakinada. This offers a course in International Business. An IIFT is taken by more than 60,000 candidates every year, as it is considered to be as important as a CAT exam. Although this exam was given on paper until 2018, it is now given online. There are 114 questions in this test, divided into 6 sections. Questions from Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension cannot be opted out for the other, as they are now in separate sections, making it mandatory for the students to attempt.
