What are the new rules for PhD in 2024?
As per the UGC, PhD aspirants do not have to appear for university entrance exams, and UGC-NET test scores will suffice. Students will be placed in category 1 based on merit as per the scores. Subsequently, students will also have to appear for an interview for PhD admission, which will follow UGC regulations 2022. After this, students with the best performance will be placed in category 2. Students with lower scores on the test and the interview will be placed in the third category. NET scores of the students from categories 2 and 3 will be considered for 70% weightage, and the interview will carry 30% weightage for the PhD exam 2024-25. NET scores will be valid for a year.
