How to draft a compelling Statement of Purpose

Statement of Purpose (SOP) has to be submitted as a part of the application process. SOP is also required for student visa purposes. Revathi stressed that your SOP should be impressive enough to convince the admission committee of your university and visa authorities that you are a suitable candidate. You will be able to paint a realistic picture of your student profile when you draft your SOP yourself because no one knows your academic journey better than you. Please keep it concise and direct, and avoid beating around the bush. Your thorough research will assist you in sharing the rationale behind selecting your preferred course, university and study abroad destination. Also, you need to share your way-forward plan, including your short-term and long-term goals.

Entrance exams

Students have to appear for English proficiency tests such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Pearson Test of English (PTE) or Duolingo English Test (DET). Also, entrance exams such as the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) are required. You must check the university-specific requirements before appearing for exams, as some universities may waive specific exams.

Revathi appeared for PTE, a widely accepted English language exam which has several exam centres. To prepare for her PTE, she viewed YouTube videos for guidance. Later, she practised by taking mock tests. She recommended mock tests to all study abroad aspirants as these exams simulate the actual test experience, encouraging you to complete each question and section within the allotted time. This also assists you in developing the strategies that work best for you.

Visa application process

Revathi insisted on keeping all the documents ready at least 2 months before applying for the student visa to avoid the last-minute rush. You must apply for a Long stay “D” visa to study in Ireland if your course duration is over 90 days. You can apply for a student visa up to 3 months before you plan to travel to Ireland. Revathi experienced a seamless student visa process as she was ready with all her documents and booked her interview slots on time.

Education loan partner

Revathi knew an education loan was essential for promptly receiving a student visa. Therefore, she applied for an education loan to ensure she received the proof of funds on time to proceed with the visa application. She was worried about the process because she was based in Qatar and was planning to apply for an education loan in India. She checked with the consultant she was in touch with and also spoke to some of her peers who work in this field. One of the most crucial parameters that Revathi was looking for in an education financing partner is its reputation in terms of customer service/customer experience.

She carried out research based on her requirements, which directed her to Avanse Financial Services. She mentioned that from the first time she came in contact with team Avanse, she was sure she would proceed with the loan as they readily answered all her queries. Revathi further added that the team continues to guide her even today if she has any doubts. Team Avanse effectively managed the entire procedure from application to disbursement. Therefore, she attributed all the credit to Avanse for facilitating a seamless process even though she resided in Qatar. The distance did not affect the whole procedure, as the team guided her every step of the way.

The team answered her queries patiently and politely regardless of how often she asked. They went above and beyond to provide a hassle-free experience, which prompted her to give a positive review to team Avanse. According to her, Avanse contributed to her higher academic journey immensely.
