Avanse Financial Services in conversation with Shaikh Muzahimuddin, who is set to pursue his Postgraduate Diploma in Food Safety and Quality Assurance Management from Lambton College of Applied Arts and Technology, Ontario, Canada. He completed his graduation last year from Queens College of Food Technology and Research Foundation. In his free time, he loves playing cricket and writing poems.

Muzahim’s academic background and work experience 

Soon after completing his higher secondary studies, he enrolled for a Bachelor of Technology degree in food, a four-year study program. After completing his degree course, he gained work experience in this sector by interning in a well-known food processing company.

Postgraduate Diploma in Food Safety and Quality Assurance Management from Lambton College of Applied Arts and Technology is a two-year full-time study program that commences from January 2022. The curriculum is designed to offer the right mix of theoretical and practical knowledge. The course prepares you to build your career in the food and beverage processing, safety and quality assurance domain. The curriculum includes some interesting subjects such as Principles of Food Sciences, Food Microbiology, Quality Management Systems and Product Development and Packaging. 

What set him on his current academic path? 

During his Bachelor’s journey, a study program in food safety and quality assurance piqued his interest, and hence, he chose this program for his further studies. Initially, Muzahim had planned to pursue his higher studies in Australia. However, in the wake of the COVID crisis, the country has introduced some strict border restrictions. Hence, after conducting thorough research and speaking to his peers, he decided to continue his further studies in Canada as it offers relevant and interesting course options in his domain, including study programs for Food Safety and Production Management. 

He further shares that his peers living in Canada and his career consultant assisted him to narrow down his choice of courses. This is how he embarked on his academic journey by deciding to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Food Safety and Quality Assurance Management from Lambton College of Applied Arts and Technology, Canada. Lambton College is popular among international students for its wide range of programs that includes 110+ courses. The college offers co-op placement to get hands-on experience while studying in Canada. What fascinates him about this program is the fact he can access the Co-op program. This program will allow him to work full-time during his final semester. The work experience that he will gain during his Co-op term will open a new world of opportunities when he transitions from academics to his profession. 

Teaching module 

The course will commence on 3rd January 2022. During our conversation, Muzahim brought forth an interesting fact that his 1st semester will be conducted online as most educational institutes in Canada are cautious about the pandemic. However, he has to be physically present in Canada to attend the online sessions. If everything is under control in future, Lambton College of Applied Arts and Technology will be conducting the following semesters offline and enable students to experience the joy of campus life. 

Let’s get to know his career plans 

He explains that food safety is an important aspect not limited to just street food or packaged food. When asked if he wants to settle in Canada or move to another country, he mentions that the decision will depend on work opportunities. He also mentions that he is open to coming back to India. During his internship period, he realized that in India, there is a huge scope to enhance and strengthen food safety and processing technology. Muzahim aspires to start his enterprise to benefit from this scope by using his entrepreneurial skills. 

A postgraduate diploma in Food Safety and Quality Assurance Management will fetch roles such as Quality Control Officer, Quality Assurance Management Professionals, Food Safety Officer in Regulatory bodies, Food Auditor in certification and Inspection bodies and more. While working with the food processing company, he noticed that there is a huge demand for qualified professionals in this sector. Hence, he decided to pursue his higher studies in this domain, sharpen his skills and contribute towards the development of the sector.
