Planning to pursue your higher studies abroad is always an exciting prospect for any student. You clear your entrance tests, get selected by a couple of universities, clear the VISA interview, and are finally on your way to the new country.

But before you get on that flight, there are certain things that you need to be aware of well in advance. In order to ensure that you go through a smooth process with minimum hassles on your way to the new place you are headed, let us take a look at an important Pre-Departure checklist:

Do your research

Before going to any place, it is very important that you first do your research. Find out about the surroundings that you are going to be living in, the laws of the place, its culture, climate, how your living arrangements are going to be, and so on. This will give you an idea of the things you need to be carrying with you.

Book your flight tickets well in advance

You should avoid booking your flight tickets at the last minute. It is always advisable to book your flight tickets as soon as you can. This will leave out possible complications and also get you the best ticket rates.

Stock your medicines

Medical expenses could get quite expensive in countries like the United States, even with the support of a higher education loan. This is why you should carry a stock of basic medications along with you. These include crocin (body pain, fever, cold), Avomine (vomiting), Cyclopam (stomach pain), Combiflam (tooth-ache), Zinetac (indigestion or other gastric issues), Esgyprin (Sprains), Avil .25 (allergies), Vicks (Headache, cold), and Erythromycin (Throat infection).

Make sure you have your insurance papers

It is very important to check about the health insurance policy rule of the country that you are going to. This is because certain countries like the United States require your health insurance policy to be according to the state you are going to be residing in, but other countries like Germany have a mandatory rule where you need to have your health insurance policy even before the visa application process.

Carry all your documents

Make sure to carry the following documents along with you:

• VISA (With photocopies)

• Passport (With photocopies)

• Flight tickets

• Form I-20

• SEVIS fee receipt

• Financial documents (Bank statements, salary slips, and so on.)

• Academic marksheets

• Medical reports

• Letter of acceptance
