The city-state of Singapore is full of amazing opportunities for higher education and career prospects. To help you out, we have listed the common entrance exams generally required for higher studies in Singapore. Let’s take a look.

TOEFL 

The TOEFL or Test of English as a Foreign Language is a test organized and administered by the Educational Testing Service or ETS. It assesses the student’s understanding, proficiency, and communication skills in the English language. The test comprises of four parts – Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening, with each part having a score scale of 0-30. The total score range is 0-120.

Though things may differ slightly from university to university, a score range of 90 to 100 in TOEFL iBT (Internet-based) and 600 and above in TOEFL PBT are generally considered acceptable in Singapore.




IELTS 

The IELTS or International English Language Testing System assesses the student on their proficiency, ability, and know-how of the English language. This test also comprises of four parts – Writing, Listening, Reading, and Speaking. Students are scored on a range of bands from 1 to 9. Band 1 indicates that the student is a non-user of the English language and band 9 indicates an Expert.

The score accepted by Singaporean universities is around 6.5 or above.

GRE 

The GRE or Graduation Record Examination is required if you want to apply to graduate schools. It is also conducted by the ETS. The GRE General Test is divided into 3 parts. There is Analytical Writing which has a score scale of 0-6 in 0.5-point increments and Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning which each have a score scale of 130-170 in 1-point increments.

For studying in Singapore, you will require a GRE score of 320 for Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning, and 3.5 for Analytical Writing. Do bear in mind that the score required will differ between Singaporean universities.

GMAT 

The GMAT or Graduate Management Admission Test is a standardized test that is required if you want to apply to graduate business schools. The GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) conducts this test. This test is divided into four parts – Quantitative, Analytical Writing, Integrated Reasoning, and Verbal Reasoning.  The total test duration is 4 hours.

Generally, Singaporean universities require GMAT scores of 600 and above for admission into their business and management programs.
