What is a UK Visa for Students?

When planning to study in the UK, you will have to apply for an appropriate student visa, depending on the course you select. It will allow you to stay and study in the UK. Students who have received confirmation of admission to a full-time course at a licensed more than six months, you can arrive in the UK up to a month prior to its start date. For courses of six months or less, arrival is permitted one week in advance. The other type of visa is a Short-term study visa for English courses. It will be valid for 6-11 months.

The UK student visa fee is £490, with an additional annual health surcharge of £776 for access to the UK’s National Health Service.

Funds Required Before Applying for a UK Study Visa

You must prove you have adequate finances to support yourself throughout the course duration. The amount should be enough to cover your tuition fees and living expenses. Currently, you must prove you have at least £1,334 per month to cover living expenses if you intend to study in London. If you are pursuing a course outside London, £1,023 should suffice to cover your monthly living costs.

From 2 January 2025, the minimum required amount will be increasing. You must have at least £1,483 per month for London and £1,136 per month to live outside London. Please note that you should ensure you have enough funds to cover expenses for up to 9 months.

The Graduate Route Visa allows international students to stay in the UK for at least two years after completing their studies. As per the latest developments, students must complete their study programme to apply for the Graduate Visa.
